CAPPADOCIA RESEARCH APPLICATION CENTER

 

Cappadocia Research Applicatıon Center was established under Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University in 2008. Since then, this center has been active in promoting the Cappadocia region’s cultural and natural heritage and has done many activities about cultural heritage and sustainable development.

 

This center aims to:

  • Engage in collaboration with academicians and researchers who would like to study the Cappadocia Region and document the studies and their publishing.
  • Encourage both undergraduate and graduate students to conduct studies at the departments of History, Turkish Language & Literature, Archaeology, Sociology and Art History.
  • Provide scientific & social assistance for both local and international researchers studying the Cappadocia Region.
  • Publish the study results in book, encyclopedia or journal formats at the request of researchers.
  • Study and carry out researches on the life, personality and works of the famous figures in culture, arts and government born in the region.
  • Carry out topographical studies on the cultural artefacts and natural formations located within the boundaries of the region, film and make an inventory and catalogue them.
  • Create a library with a complete collection of books, theses and similar studies done both in Turkey and abroad about the Cappadocia Region.
  • Build an archive of photos, films, videos and slides accompanied by historical photographs and engravings and make them available to those interested in science and tourism.
  • Identify all the works of art and cultural heritage in the region; protect and promote them in collaboration with relevant institutions and authorities.
  • Register movable and immovable historical works on the national heritage list
  • Launch projects to protect, repair and restore works of arts and collection of works.
  • Study traditional arts, make sure they continue to exist.
  • Promote studies and cultural heritage values regarding the Cappadocia Region nationwide and internatioally; with this aim in mind, to hold periodical national and international symposia.
  • Hold scientific meetings, congresses and seminars, launch co-projects by working in collaboration with universities, institutes and similar centers both in Turkey and abroad.
  • Encourage researchers to increase the number of studies on the cultural heritage of the Cappadocia Region.
  • Involve the residents of the region to take part in the process of identifying and protecting the cultural heritage.
  • Raise an awareness regionwide towards creating an idea of cultural heritage in public.
  • Support all kinds of scientific and artistic studies about Cappadocia to be done in the format of documentaries, novel, theatre, etc.
  • Gather necessary documents and information from relevant authorities and people in order to portray the social, cultural and financial situation of the districts located in the region particularly under the Ottoman rule.
Considering the historical texture of the region, launch scientific activities based on three periods; Ancient Period, Roman-Byzantine and Islamic period.

Some of the activities of the center about the cultural heritage and sustainable development are as follows:

 

  • A conference named "Intangible Cultural Heritage" in which Prof. Dr. M. Öcal OĞUZ, the chairman of was a a speaker Turkey National Committee for UNESCO was organized (2009).
  • A conference on "The Historical Development of Turkish and Its Current Situation", in which Prof. Dr. Gürer GÜLSEVİN was a speaker, was held (2010).
  • A conference on "Karamanli Orthodox Turks ", where researcher and author Oğuz ÖZDEM was a speaker, was held (2010).
  • The conference named "Culture Economy and Industries" in which Prof. Dr. Nebi ÖZDEMİR from Hacettepe University was a speaker was held (2010).
  • A conference titled "What We Learned from Cappadocia Tablets" in which Prof. Dr. Yusuf KILIÇ from Pamukkale University was a speaker was held (2011).
  • In cooperation with Derinkuyu Municipality, "Traditional Shepe Festival" event was held (2011).
  • The 1st International Nevşehir History and Culture Symposium was held in cooperation with Nevşehir Governorship, Nevşehir Municipality and with the support of eleven municipalities from the districts and towns. International Nevşehir History and Culture Symposium Proceedings were published in 8 volumes (2011).
  • In cooperation with Erciyes University and Talas Municipality, "1. International Talas and Cappadocia Equestrian Symposium” was held. A mixed exhibition was opened in the symposium where the works of many artists related to the region and horses were exhibited (2012).
  • In collaboration with the Turkey National Commission for UNESCO, "Göreme National Park and Cappadocia Natural and Cultural Heritage Workshop" was held (2012).
  • In cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Ankara, "Nevruz in Turkish World and Turkey-Kazakhstan Brotherhood Days" was held. (2013)
  • A conference on "Turkish Folklore Studies in the 21st Century” in which Prof. Dr Metin EKİCİ, a member of Turkey National Commission for UNESCO attended as a speaker was held (2013).
  • The work titled "Nevşehir Salnamesi 1914" prepared by Prof. Dr. Adem ÖGER was published (2013).
  • In cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan in Ankara, "Nevruz in Turkish World and Turkey- Kyrgyzstan Brotherhood Days" was held (2014).
  • Within the scope of the European Union's Grundtvig Adult Education, the project named “Oral Culture Bridge Between The Past and The Future” was implemented (2015).
  • In cooperation with Folklore Club in the university and Department of Turkish Folklore, "Fairy Tale Workshop" activity was held (2017).
  • In cooperation with Folklore Club in the university and Department of Turkish Folklore, 50 students were given practical training on Nevşehir folklore in 7 workshops within the scope of the “Intangible Cultutal Heritage Workshops for Primary School Immigrant Students in Nevşehir” with the support of the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Immigrants (SGDD-ASAM) (2017).
  • In cooperation with Cappadocia Art and History Museum, with the participation of the European Union Ambassador, “II. The International Cappadocia Cultural Imece Festival” was held (2018).
